Beginning October 22, 2012 we will be holding a contest for our followers to tell us what they like about the American Welding Society. The contest will end on October 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
Participants can enter the contest by ‘Liking’ the American Welding Society Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/AmericanWeldingSociety and writing a comment on the contest post. A comment written on the Facebook post will be considered an official entry, but contestants can also use Twitter or email as an alternate way to enter the contest.
On Twitter you can also tell us your favorite thing about the American Welding Society by using the Hashtag ‘#ILikeAWS.’ For example, a contestant could write “#ILikeAWS because they offer great memberships.”
You can also send an email to rcorona@aws.org with the subject line “I like AWS.”
The entries will be judged based on creativity and relevance to the American Welding Society, so try to be as compelling and original in your answers as possible.
The prize for the contest will be a copy of ‘The Underwater Welder’ graphic novel by Jeff Lemire. Once a winner is selected, they will be notified by email, and then will be presented on Facebook and Twitter.
The contest is only open to those people with a valid Twitter, Facebook, or email account, and who live within the United States.
The Contest is administered by the American Welding Society and in no way sponsored by Twitter or Facebook.
Good luck!

I like the American Welding Society firstly because they lead by being a positive role model to new comers in the Industry. At the beginning of October I attended my first AWS meeting at UAPICBC, the college where I have just completed my Level C progam in Delta BC, Canada. The individuals who led the meeting were a friendly approachable bunch for all welders present which I very much appreciated, being a new comer and one of few women in the Industry. Tradespeople, men and women, who take time to share with new comers and students, value their own contribution in the Industry and have a strong belief in what they are doing otherwise they would not be in attendance. Finally I like the AWS because they have a long history, leading the way since 1919. Their mission is “to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes…”, if we (new welders) in the US or Canada choose to accept it ‘our mission’, we too will be a part of making and fabricating something that functional, scientific and creative, one of the best ways I know to be part of making history.
